Zoo By Moonlight is an evening event held at Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary every full moon from May through September. It is a great time to see the Sanctuary's nocturnal residents out and about that you may not see during the day. To walk the park by moonlight and hear the howling of the different animals - it really is a very unique experience; it makes you feel like you're out in nature with these animals!
Plus, if you haven't yet seen the Clouded Leopards, this is an excellent event to change that. Last month, they were out for the entirety of the event. It was so neat to see them acting curious and playful. If there was no other reason to attend "Zoo by Moonlight" than to see these two playing and jumping around, that would be enough.
Docents will also be available to help locate animals and answer questions. Cost of attendance is $4 for Members and $6 for Non-Members.
Zoo By Moonlight will run from 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm on the following dates in 2016:
- May 21
- June 20
- July 19
- August 18
- September 16
Also, from June thru August, the park will be open until 8 pm on Saturdays. Now that it's getting hotter outside, these extended hours provide a nice opportunity for guests to wander the grounds after the peak heat but still with plenty of sunlight. Though, many of the nocturnal residents do start to come out around 5 pm, so if you're visiting during these hours, it provides a really great time to see the park by daylight, but also to see some of the animals you wouldn't see in the afternoon - it's the best of both worlds!
